Data Handling

Last updated: 1 March 2025

What is stored on your device

Everything Advoke CV stores, it stores in your browser's localStorage. The keys are all prefixed with advoke:. The exact keys are:

  • advoke:draft:<id> — the full JSON of one resume draft. One key per draft.
  • advoke:index — an array of draft metadata (id, name, updatedAt, templateId, sizeKB). This lets the draft manager show you a list without loading every draft.
  • advoke:prefs — your theme preference, editor state, and last-used settings.
  • advoke:flags — overrides for feature flags. Advoke CV does not change this without your action.
  • advoke:schema-version — used to migrate old drafts to the current schema.

What is not stored

Advoke CV does not store your IP address, your browser fingerprint, your visit history, your referrer, your user agent, or any other metadata about your use of the service.

Nothing is transmitted to any server. Nothing is shared with any third party. Nothing is available to anyone other than you and the browser running on your device.

localStorage size limits

Most browsers allow 5MB of localStorage per origin. Advoke CV is designed to fit a typical set of drafts comfortably. If you save many large drafts, you may hit the limit. When that happens, the editor shows a warning and asks you to delete drafts or export them to a file.

How to inspect your data

You can see exactly what Advoke CV has stored using your browser's developer tools. In Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari:

  1. Open the site in your browser.
  2. Open the developer tools (usually F12 or Cmd+Option+I).
  3. Go to the Application or Storage tab.
  4. Expand Local Storage for advoke-cv.pages.dev.

You will see every key listed above, with its value in plain JSON.

How to export your data

Advoke CV has an export option in the editor toolbar. Export a single draft to JSON, or use the full backup option to export all drafts and preferences as a single file. Store that file somewhere safe — emailing it to yourself or saving it to cloud storage is a reasonable approach.

How to delete your data

You can delete Advoke CV's stored data in three ways:

  1. Delete individual drafts in the editor's draft manager.
  2. Delete all data in the editor's overflow menu — this clears every advoke: key.
  3. Clear browser data for advoke-cv.pages.dev through your browser's settings.

What can cause data loss

Because everything is stored on your device, the following events can cause permanent loss of your drafts:

  • Clearing browser data, cookies, or site data
  • Switching to a different browser or a different device
  • Using private / incognito mode, which discards storage when the window closes
  • Browser storage limits or browser crashes
  • Operating system resets or device loss

Advoke CV cannot recover lost drafts. Use the Export JSON option as a backup strategy.

Responsibility

You are responsible for the safekeeping of your own data. Advoke CV is a local-only application — the storage of your resume content is on your device, not in a system we control. The export options exist precisely so that you can hold your own backup.
